Having a properly drafted Will means that when you die, your estate will, after tax deductions etc., be able to be distributed to your chosen beneficiaries. People who die without a Will are said to have died Intestate which means that any estate you leave behind, after deductions for tax etc., will be apportioned in accordance with rules set by the state. This could mean that those you wish to benefit, may get nothing while others whom you haven't considered may get everything.
Executors:
Who you choose as your executor is an important consideration and one that can place considerable work on the executor. While anyone can be an executer, it is more common to arrange to have this handled by your legal representative either entirely, or by having a relation do it in conjunction with your legal representative.
Storage of your Will:
Obviously you will want to keep your Will safe and usually, your solicitor will do this for you if they are named as executors. You would then keep a copy of the Will in a place where it can be found by those you leave behind.
Practical matters:
There will be many things to consider in preparing your Will and much will depend on the size and complexity of your Estate and the number of people you wish to benefit Below are listed some of the things you should do.

Make a list of your assets and liabilities.

Make a list of items, valuable or not, that you want to leave to specific people.

Make a list of the people you wish to be considered in your Will and decide how much you want each to get. Remember that the size of your estate might be very different on death to what it is just now.

If your Estate is likely to be over the governments limit for Inheritance tax, you would be wise to consider how this tax will affect what you leave behind..
